2006/12/05 There are more buried treasures

Development should be encouraged but not at the expense of our heritage.

Malacca is rich in ancient treasures, especially around the clock tower and the former Secretariat buildings.

Now that an ancient wall has been discovered beneath the proposed tower project, the authorities should look for other treasures under the Secretariat buildings.

During the time of former chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik, a structure was discovered beneath the Secretariat buildings and a well in front of the present park.

The discovery attracted short-lived attention as there were concerns the Secretariat buildings and former Governor’s office complex may collapse from excavation work.
